Your Home. Your Choices.
Your Way of Living
Where you live is only one part of feeling at home. Who you live with, how you are supported, the relationships around you and how much control you have over everyday life matter just as much. Individualised Living Options (ILO) offer eligible NDIS participants a flexible way to design home-based supports around the life they want to live.
Explore ILO With LifestWhat Are Individualised Living Options?
Individualised Living Options (ILO) are an NDIS support that helps you choose where you live, who you live with, and how you are supported. It is a highly flexible model designed around your unique needs and preferences. It lets you choose whether you live in your own home, a rental, or with others, and whether you share supports with housemates, live with a host family, or receive supplementary drop-in care.
“ILO is not the physical house itself. It is the support arrangement around how you choose to live.”
Start With the Life You Want
A person-centered approach begins with questions, not answers.
Location
Where would you like to live?
Companionship
Who would you feel comfortable living with?
Independence
What can you already do independently?
Support
Where would additional support make a difference?
Meaning
What does 'home' mean to you?
What Could an Individualised Living Options Arrangement Include?
Host Arrangement
You live in the home of a non-related host who provides support in exchange for reimbursement or rent assistance.
Housemate Arrangement
You live with a chosen housemate (in your home or theirs) who provides an agreed level of support.
Supplementary Support
Additional drop-in support workers, on-call assistance, or mentoring to supplement the primary living arrangement.
Monitoring & Adjustment
Regular check-ins to ensure the arrangement remains safe, effective, and aligned with your goals.
Individualised Living Options vs Supported Independent Living: What Is the Difference?
Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Typically involves living in a shared home with other participants, with 24/7 rostered support workers provided by an agency.
Individualised Living Options
Focuses on building a flexible, often informal or mixed support network (housemates, hosts, mentors) tailored precisely to how and where you want to live. It is generally not suited for those needing 24/7 active care.
Neither option is automatically 'better'. It depends entirely on your support needs and preferences.

Designing Support Around the Life You Want to Build
Choosing how and where to live is one of life's most personal decisions, which is why an Individualised Living Options arrangement should reflect much more than a participant's immediate support requirements. Through Lifest HealthCare's Individualised Living Options in Brisbane, eligible participants can explore how relationships, lifestyle preferences, existing strengths and future aspirations could contribute to a living arrangement designed around them. Lifest begins by understanding the person's vision for everyday life rather than starting with a predetermined model.
Lifest HealthCare also recognises that a successful ILO arrangement needs to remain practical and sustainable as life evolves. Relationships can change, confidence can grow, new opportunities may emerge and support requirements can develop over time. Lifest's approach considers how an arrangement can continue to support choice, independence and stability while remaining responsive to these changes, helping participants create a home life that reflects who they are today and where they would like to go in the future.
Where an arrangement is built around a shared home with rostered support instead, learn more about Supported Independent Living. The supports inside an ILO are chosen the same way: Daily Living Support and Community Access are common parts of one, and your Support Coordinator can help you navigate the funding stages.
